Our mission

Why we started 1TopLife

Insurance policies are written to confuse. Loan agreements bury the terms that matter most. And most of the “educational” content online is quietly funded by the companies it supposedly reviews.

We started 1TopLife because people deserve a straight answer. Whether you’re comparing term versus whole life coverage, figuring out whether to refinance your student loans, or trying to understand why your premium went up — you should be able to find a clear, honest explanation written by someone who actually understands how these products work.

Every article on this site is written or reviewed by someone with direct, professional experience in the financial services industry. We cite primary sources — the CFPB, the Insurance Information Institute, state regulators — not just other blog posts. And we update our content when the rules change, not just when it’s convenient.

The person behind it

Who writes and reviews our content

1TopLife isn’t a content farm. It’s run by one person with a background in financial services, and every piece of content either comes directly from that experience or is reviewed by a credentialed professional before it’s published.

Laurel C. Yazzie

Founder & Lead Editor, 1TopLife

Laurel C. Yazzie spent more than ten years working inside the financial services industry — first in insurance brokerage, where she helped clients navigate coverage decisions, and later in consumer lending, where she worked directly with borrowers through the loan application process. Over that time, she saw the same problem repeat itself: the people who needed clear, unbiased financial information the most were consistently being served either confusing jargon or thinly disguised marketing content. She founded 1TopLife to be the resource she wished had existed for those clients. Every article published on this site is either written or reviewed by someone with direct professional experience in the subject matter, sourced from primary references, and updated when the rules or rates change. Laurel reviews all content before it goes live and stands behind every piece of guidance on this site.

Editorial standards

How we research and write

Finance content that gets things wrong doesn’t just hurt search rankings — it hurts real people. These are the non-negotiable standards every article on 1TopLife is held to.

📋

Primary sources only

We cite the CFPB, Insurance Information Institute, federal and state regulators — not other blogs or press releases.

🔄

Kept current

Every article displays its last-reviewed date. When rates, rules, or regulations change, we update the content — not just the timestamp.

🧾

No ghost-writing

Every published piece carries the name of the person who wrote or reviewed it. Anonymous content doesn’t meet our standard.

⚖️

Editorially independent

Our editorial decisions are made independently of any commercial relationships. A product we earn a referral from gets the same scrutiny as one we don’t.

Our review process

How an article gets published here

We follow a consistent process so nothing slips through without proper scrutiny. Here’s what happens before any article goes live.

Topic & keyword research

We identify questions real people are asking — not just high-traffic terms. Topics must have genuine informational value, not just search volume.

Primary source research

The writer consults official regulatory sources, policy documents, and — where relevant — product disclosures before drafting a word.

Industry-experience review

Every article is read by someone with direct professional experience in the relevant area (insurance or lending). Factual errors or oversimplifications get flagged and corrected before publication.

Publication with full attribution

The article goes live with a named author, a last-reviewed date, and all sources cited. It enters a recurring review cycle so it stays accurate over time.

Commercial transparency

How 1TopLife makes money

We believe you have the right to know exactly how this site is funded. Here is a plain-English explanation.

Advertiser disclosure

1TopLife may earn compensation when you click on links to financial products and services featured on this site. This includes referral fees from insurance marketplaces, lender comparison platforms, and financial service providers. However, compensation never influences our editorial content, ratings, or recommendations. Products are selected based on their merit for the reader, not on whether a commercial relationship exists. Any article that includes affiliate or referral links is clearly marked with our disclosure notice.

We do not accept payment for favorable reviews, guaranteed placement, or sponsored editorial content without full disclosure. If you have a question about a specific commercial relationship, contact us directly.
